Rev. Jasper Peters
I was born and raised here in Denver. I grew up in a church that was less than a mile from where Belong is now where both my parents served as pastors. Though I was raised in church, and came to love Jesus at an early age, I also experienced great brokenness in many Christian communities. For a time I walked away from faith completely. I am grateful for the persistent love of God that brought me back into community.
Belong Church has grown out of a recognition that the church is called to invite all of God’s children into community, to be transformed, and to transform the world through justice and mercy. Most of the folks in our community have had moments where the church hasn’t done a great job of living up to that goal, myself included. I am called to a model of pastoral ministry where we walk together, learn together, and support one another to do the work of God’s kingdom.
God has been good to me and full of grace through all my life. Now, though it seems nearly impossible, my vocation is to invite others to recognize and share that same divine love and grace with other. I am lucky enough to be joined by my wife Kimberly, and our two sons who keep our hearts and our schedules full. If you’d like to know more about my story, or the story of Belong Church, can I treat you to coffee?
Pastor of Worship & Mission
I have been serving as Belong’s Pastor of Worship & Mission ever since the church was just a twinkle in the eye of the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Conference. After almost 15 years as a full time church music director, worship leader, pastor, and musician-for-hire, my family and I have truly found a home at Belong. We are deeply grateful to be a part of a faith community that values justice and inclusion while celebrating God’s unconditional love for all people.
My dream is that Belong can be a place where diversity, tradition, cultural relevance, theological truth, and emotional connection can all be expressed through our corporate worship experiences; and that our worship will inspire us to love and serve the community we inhabit together in downtown Denver.
My high school sweetheart Karissa and I have been married 16 years this May; we have three extremely loud and passionate children: Finley (11), Emerson (8), and Coraline (4-going-on-18).
Children’s Ministry Director
Before joining the staff as Children’s Ministry Director, I had been serving as a volunteer with Belong Kids ever since our very first service. I have spent over 10 years in various leadership roles as a volunteer within children’s ministry and I have always had a passion for working with children. There is nothing that brings me greater joy than singing with the kids, teaching them importance lessons and watching as they grow to develop a faith of their own. I am so thrilled to be a part of a community that encourages our children to be actively engaged in the church.
My heart’s desire is for our kids to have their own community within our church where they feel a sense of belonging. I also want to ensure that they feel welcome and engaged with the larger Belong church community as a whole. I hope and pray that during our time together, our children are given the chance to grow both spiritually and relationally with their peers and the leaders who pour into them each week. My husband Josh and I have two children of our own (Lydia & Declan) who are a part of Belong Kids. We feel so grateful to be bringing them up in such an inclusive and loving community.
Administrative Assistant (“Princess of the Pews”)
I moved to the Denver area when I graduated from college—before anyone else on the staff was even born! And even though I am the matriarch on the staff, I’m the newbie as far as attending church is concerned. I was brought up to believe in God but didn’t get much beyond that. Attending church occasionally as a child with a grandmother, I heard condemnation of other churches; and couldn’t understand why people said they believed in the same God, but their church was the only “right” church. So, at a fairly early age, I decided I didn’t need to go to a building with a bunch of hypocrites to worship.
Fast forward to 2006 when I joined a 12-step program and was told to believe in a God of MY understanding. I was told my God could be whatever I wanted Them to be, but I had to have one. I also needed to learn to help others however I could. Over the years my vision of this God deepened. After my Dad passed, I yearned for a deeper understanding. I started looking for a church that believed what I felt. Through a grace filled set of circumstances, I met Jasper and came to Belong in April, 2017. This place is EXACTLY what I envisioned a church should be, and didn't think existed. In three years, I’ve gone from thinking organized religion was pretty useless to being on staff at a church that I love!
I’m blessed to share my life with my husband and best friend since 1985. We have two grown children who I’m extremely proud of and two amazing grandsons who I love to spoil. I’m proof that it’s never too late to lean into what God is saying in your life. I’m thrilled to be here, and I'm always available to talk with anyone about the disease of addiction!
